Lightning Bolt is an American swimwear and casual menswear brand that celebrates the passion for surfing as one of the purest ways people can connect to nature.
Founded on the shores of Hawaii in the summer of 1971 by Jack Shipley and Gerry Lopez, Lightning Bolt was formed on the principle that surf is more than just a sport, yet it is a way of life, a way of mental and physical self-development: they began crafting surfwear such as shorts in comfortable cotton that stopped well above the knees as well as soft tees and tanks.
For a while, this brand was seen on every beach around the world. Then, in the early ‘80s, it was bought out, and for nearly twenty years it languished in the States.
That changed in 2009, when the newly brand was relaunched. Now based in Southern California and produced in the U.S., Lightning Bolt offers swim trunks and casual gear in old-school styles that you don’t have to be a surfer to love.
Great attention is dedicated to technological progression both in and out of the water: the company prides itself on manufacturing premium product for the conscious customers that emphasizes quality, style and utility as well as supporting local manufacturing where possible.
