Philosophy

Tess Giberson is an American ready-to-wear clothing brand for women characterized by a cool, effortless and creative aesthetic with a distinct knitwear component.

After her graduation in 1996 at Rhode Island School of Design, Giberson moved to New York and began her career working at Calvin Klein as a sweater designer for the Men’s Collection. After two years refining her technical skills, she left and free-lanced for several companies until she was ready to launch her eponymous collection in 2001 and the following season she received one of the first Ecco Domani Fashion awards.

The conceptual collection was known for the experimentation with traditional craft, anachronistic sewing techniques, detailed handwork with extreme consideration to detail, as well as continuous collaborations with artists and musicians, including her husband, painter Jon Widman and her sister, artist Petrova Giberson.

It garnered accolades from prestigious specialty stores across the United States, Japan and France. The collection has also been recognized by the design and art communities, exhibited in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and Taka Ishii Gallery in Tokyo.

Embraced by critics and avant-garde fashionistas but with minimal retail presence, the label was shut down in 2005 when Giberson was hired as Creative Director at TSE Cashmere.

The Tess Giberson collection was re-launched in Fall 2010: preserving the experimentation and creativity of the original line, the emphasis of the new collection is on its minimal tailoring with refined references to craft for a strong, empowered woman.

The collection is sold at prestigious stores around the world such as Barneys New York and Saks Fifth Avenue in the United States.
