Philosophy

Converse Jack Purcell is one of the sister-lines of Converse sneakers brand that, thanks to its clean lines and signature blue smile at the toe, is often called the quintessential tennis classic, telling a story of American sports and innovators that came together for the love of sports.

The line had its beginnings on the badminton court when it was created by one of the sport's great heroes, Jack Purcell; born in Ontario, he began his badminton career in the 1920s and, over the years, he won numerous championships and awards till 1933, when he became the world champion.

In order to provide more protection for the foot, he helped to design the Jack Purcell sneaker originally introduced by the Canadian footwear division of B.F. Goodrich in 1935.

In 1972 Converse acquired the Jack Purcell trademark, carrying on the legacy left by the great badminton player.

Manufactured in Lumberton, this simple and comfortable canvas shoe with the vulcanized rubber outsole has garnered such an esteemed following, finding its way to becoming an American style icon.
