Philosophy
Mykita+Maison Martin Margiela is an eyewear collection for men and women born in April 2014 by creative collaboration between Mykita, german eyewear manufacturer and famous french fashion brand Maison Martin Margiela.
Both labels are kindred creative minds and worked together to establish a radical, new eyewear collection that reflects the synergies of both houses.
Maison Martin Margiela’s eyewear collections have grown since their first glasses back in 2009; now Margiela takes the next step by creating an even more distinctive and complete optical range thanks to the edgy, talented Mykita's DNA.
Mykita and Maison Martin Margiela are linked by a shared concept of the creative process – the reinterpretation of historical forms, radical experimentation with constructions and an unconventional approach to materials.
The collaboration consists of two collections, Dual and Essentials, and blends the innovation and forward-thinkingness of both design houses.
Dual is comprised of two pairs of acetate frames, born of one form, then divided into pairs and deconstructed. Overall, the collection rounds up four unisex styles in five colorways.
Essentials, meanwhile, takes stainless steel frames and reduces them to raw material with no additive components. Inspired by historical shapes of the last century, the monochrome frames and matching lenses lend the models a pure, radical look. In total, Essentials features six unisex styles in four colorways.
