Philosophy
The Cambridge Satchel Company is a British company, producing satchels and leather goods.
The company was founded by Julie Deane and her mother Freda Thomas in 2008 in Cambridge, England, as a ploy to pay the private school fees of Deane’s children.
The leather briefcases, handmade, are all based on the original designs of Oxford and Cambridge.
At first they were aimed at school children, then they reached an unexpectedly success, especially among teens and fashion bloggers.
Following the spread of international fashion magazines, and thanks to the partnership with the French label Comme des Garçons, The Cambridge Satchel Company has increased its sales, establishing its own factory near Leicester.
Deane and Thomas used to sell their creations in Covent Garden, during the weekend, drawing inspiration from the Harry Potter’s briefcases; they soon reached a great and totally unexpected success, maintaining a vintage touch, and sometimes retro, in their creations.
These comfortable bags satisfy the collective tastes, thanks to a full spectrum of colours and several sizes; the colour palette ranges from black, beige and brown, up to color-blocking, such as fluorescent colours.
These tremendously British bags seems to deservedly earn the title of it-bags of the moment; this accessory can be worn by anyone, at any age, adapting to any style, bringing to mind old childhood memories.
