Philosophy

Sass & Bide is an Australian brand of womenswear and accessories, dedicated at the strong, multifaceted women.

The creative duo Sarah -Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton, respectively a former accountant and an advertising art director, is characterized by a strong sense style, visionary and revolutionary.

The label, founded in the late 1990’s, began its rise proposing custom jeans in a stall of the Road Market, London.

Motivated by a love for vintage clothing and flea markets, Clarke and Middleton custom the common jeans according the latest fashion trends, dealing in retail outlets.

After the initial success in the various London flea markets, Clarke and Middleton come back to Australia in 1999,  presenting an extravagant and underground collection at the Mercedes Australian Fashion Week in 2001.

In 2002 Clarke and Middleton goes to New York, where Sarah Jessica Parker was filming “Sex and the City”. Clarke worn a denim jacket, she casually took it off and passes it to a security guard, who gives it to Parker.

The next day, Clarke and Middleton are invited by Sarah Jessica Parker to show their designs, commissioning them for the series.

Through this publicity, the label has an unprecedented growth in the international market.

Sass & Bide offers a complete range of ready- to-wear and denim; currently the brand is distributed in more than twenty countries, and it is available in exclusive shops and department stores worldwide.

Their aim has always been to create something stronger and more essential than what fashion usually proposes, working towards a  “traditional modernist” style, the alternation between male and female , the use of tuxedo, as well as of touches of light and dark, white and black.

The two designers draw inspiration by Le Corbusier's works: contrasting colours, folds and stiff fabrics which improve the texture of clothes.

Primary colours, mixed with sequins and colourful beads, are a statement of chaos and simplicity, especially when combined with pleated origami and a mix of floral details .

Fresh and modern dresses, shorts, flaired trousers, skirts, mini dress, jackets, tuxedos and capes, using thin stripes that run from classicism: a greeting to tradition.

Shine and unique contrasts with metallic edges, snake skins, opulent gold cuffs and iridescent harness which create break points between white, cream, neon shades, orange and paint.
