Philosophy

Missoni is a luxury brand of clothing and accessories for men and women, founded in the half 50’s by the couple Ottavio Missoni and Rosita.

The Jelmini family owned a factory producing embroidered fabrics in Golasecca, Varese, in the early 50’s the family had Jelmini in Golant, in the province of Varese, and Missoni had recently opened a knitting workshop in Trieste; the married couple starting a new knitting factory in Gallarate.

In 1960 Missoni dresses began to appear in fashion magazines and two years later reached the success worldwide thanks to the innovative use of “Rachel” sewing machine, used in new colorful and lightweight clothes.

Missoni “age d'or” is the 70’s, when the brand won numerous awards worldwide, including the Neiman Marcus Fashion Award.

In 1983 Missoni creates the costumes for the debut of “Lucia di Lammermoor” at La Scala Theatre,  and three years later Ottavio Missoni was awarded with the title of Commander of the Republic.

Patterns and colour blends are the unmistakable features and identity of the brand; style icon,  Missoni is able to bring inspiration and innovation in the fashion world, and even today, after fifty years, is still one of the main character.
