Yohji Yamamoto

Philosophy

Yohji Yamamoto is a Japanese designer who debuted in Tokyo in 1972 with "Y's", his first collection.

Considered a reference point for a new generation of avant-garde fashion designers, Yamamoto, known as “the King of deconstruction", moved to Paris with his childhood friend Rei Kawabuko, the founder of Comme des Garcons.

In 1981 he revolutionized the fashion rules, presenting a collection defined  by critics "Post-atomic"; geometric designs which does not follow the silhouette, cuts and gashes, preferring the total black with flashes of white and gray.

Yohji Yamamoto draws simple lines and square, referring to the kimono; the designer is inspired by the Japanese tradition and he experiments new fabrics, mixing hi-tech and innovative yarns with fine fibers, in order to obtain a completely original consistency.
