Vetements

Philosophy

Düsseldorf-based design collective Vetements grew out of a group of young designers’ desire to offer a refined clothing alternatives to the continual rebranding of the fashion cycle by focusing on singular, impactful pieces with immediate appeal and de-constructed aesthetic rather than thematic seasonal collections.

Georgian-born and Paris-based head designer Demna Gvasalia learned his skills at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and worked for Louis Vuitton and Maison Martin Margiela, where he developed his iconic de-constructing and reconstructing techniques that distort the wardrobe's essentials.

Gvasalia named the label Vetements, the French word for “clothes,” because he doesn’t want customers to pay attention to the name but rather to the clothes themselves, singular impactful pieces with exaggerated silhouettes, such as wool military coats, shrunken hoodies, classic white T-shirts, and oversize, asymmetrical outerwear.

In few years the brand has attracted the attention of many celebrities such as Rihanna and Kanye West.
