Philosophy
Suzusan is a german brand of scarves, shawls and decorative objects that represent the perfect balance between the ancient Japanese craft and the modern, Western context.
Creative Director and founder Hiroyuki Murase studied Integration Visual Art and Architecture at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf, Germany; he launched his own label Suzusan in 2008 with the aim to mix quality and contemporary design with Shibori, a traditional Japanese textile finishing and dyeing technique created by Murase’s own family and traditionally used on silk and cotton fabrics, which were then made into typical Japanese clothing such as kimonos.
Hiroyuki Murase's family has a long tradition working in Shibori yet the designer has taken the traditional techniques and applied selected materials such as cashmere, alpaca or transparent silk from Japan and all over the world, in order to give this technique a new, contemporary relevance through the development of new and innovative procedures and modern creations.
Suzusan collection is sold at several high-end boutiques around the world, such as in Paris, in Berlin or Tokyo. Internationally designers such as Issey Miyake, Dior and Yohji Yamamoto have already called upon the brand to collaborate and work with Suzusan fabrics.
