Chanel is a deluxe maison, popular for its haute couture, ready-to-wear, bags and accessories lines, founded by the French fashion designer Gabrielle Chanel, as known as Coco.
The designer had humble origins but an undisputed talent and she was one of the greatest fashion’s pioneer of twentieth-century, the interpreter of a sober and elegant clothing featured by geometric cuts, essential silhouettes and soft lines.
Since the 20’s, the famous fashion designer revolutionized womenswear creating the suit and the “little black dress” (le petit robe noir), she introduced the tricot in haute couture and she underlined the importance of a more comfortable clothes, with a sporty and masculine touch, sacrificing the dominant glitzy style in fashion.
Coco Chanel makes her debut in the world of Fashion creating hats in 1908, in the Balsan building in Paris, then in Deauville and Biarritz.
The opening in Rue Cambon, Paris, in the 20’s, marks the beginning of her international success, acclaimed by the press, chosen by personalities and celebrities.
First collections, which reflect a plain style, are designed for the modern smart and working woman’s day.
Blazers, skirts, sweaters, cardigans, marinarette, jersey clothes, knitted suits and gabardine dresses, cheviot, wool, tweed, they have several colours such as beige, grey, black, "black & white" and navy blue.
From the two-tone pumps, to the famous quilted purse with the chain strap, from the Chanel n°5 to the jewellery with pearls and diamonds.
Coco plain taste and charm comes out under the popular motto "Fashion passes, style remains”.
Gabrielle Chanel produces womenswear and accessories, with the popular double “C” logo, a real status symbol, until his death in 1971.
Since 1954 Chanel is lead by Karl Otto Lagerfeld."Kaiser Karl" keeps the traditional brand’s features, conceiving more comfortable collections and new, thanks his personal current and eccentric touch.
Lagerfeld shows on the catwalk collections between Futurism and New Baroque opulent lines: jewellery enriched silk dresses, fringed clothes, laces and embroideries, or with organza trains, yellow tailleurs, geometric cuts’ coats with gold details, over the knees black leather boots, silver lame suits and bold bustier on puffy tulle and chiffon skirts.
Neiman Marcus consecrated the excellence of Chanel, awarding it with the Oscars of Fashion in 1957.
