Kara Ross is a New York-based luxury jewelry and handbags brand known for its bold and unique creations that reflects character and imagination for a women who have an independent sense of style, classic yet willing to take risks and stand out.
After picking up a tourmaline stone on an African safari and designing it into a ring at the age of 13, Philadelphia-born Kara Ross fell in love with the art of jewelry.
Following graduation from Georgetown and a short stint in advertising at Harper’s Bazaar, Kara decided to pursue a career in this field, becaming a certified Gemologist; for many years she used diamonds, pearls and 18kt gold to create one-of-a-kind custom pieces for private clients.
She launched her eponymous company, Kara Ross New York, in 2003 drawing inspiration by alternative materials like jet, lava, wood, titanium as well as precious and colored semi-precious gemstones in their raw, organic forms.
In 2006 the line has expanded to include exotic one-of-a-kind handbags handcrafted by artisans in New York City using exotic skins like python, ostrich and alligator as well as exclusive materials like marble fabric, printed python and selenite resin.
Recognized as pieces of art, Kara’s fine jewelry can now be seen at museums around the country, including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York and the San Diego Natural History Museum.
Her handbags have been widely praised and are being carried in stores like Neiman Marcus and being seen in the hands of many celebrities including Kate Hudson, Cameron Diaz, Eva Longoria, Anne Hathaway, Demi Moore, Alicia, Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama.
