Philosophy
Jeremy Laing is a Toronto-based total-look women's and men's clothing brand characterized by sharp tailoring, geometric construction, draping and layering techniques in brave, forward collections.
Born in Canada and grew up on an army base in Germany, designer Jeremy Laing entered the fashion world studying design at Ryerson University and working as an assistant to Alexander McQueen; following his apprenticeship, Jeremy worked freelance demonstrating his strength in innovative pattern making, garment construction and the use of textile.
He launched his eponymous brand in 2005 during New York Fas hion Week, attracting coverage in medias such as The New York Times and gaining the attention of international buyers with his modern, artful, architectural vision and signature smart-chic designs.
He quickly established himself as a thoughtful master of drapery, mixing menswear-inspired techniques with couture and tailoring traditions; his garments are a sum of parts, all functioning in relation to one another and, ultimately, to the body.
Despite rapidly rising his status, Laing eventually found himself in the middle of an industry that is driven more by marketing and fast-fashion than quality: as such, he shuttered his label last summer of 2014.
