Philosophy
The Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck creates menswear collections.
Van Beirendonck studied Fashion Design at the Royal Academy of Arts in Antwerp, where, later, he will teach.
In 1981, he joined the North European fashion scene with Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Van Saene and Dirk Bikkembergs.
Walter worked at Gianfranco Ferre until 1992 and a year later he made his debut with a clothing collection, inspired by the visual arts, technology, literature, and ethnic influences.
His creativity is unusual thanks to different colour combinations, quirky and engaging contaminations, strong graphic influences which often play with rigorous and geometric elements such as polka dots, zigzags and stripes.
Each suit, jacket and trousers, coat or parka is the result of a mixture of style and colours which converge into a single outfit.
Mega blue or green polka dots, for example, are the nerve center of tartan suits, a classic pullover is enlivened with different shades.
Bright and unconventional tones are the main characters in the Van Beirendonck fashion, who also creates the costumes for the U2’s PopMart tour, in 1997.
