Genny is a brand of prêt-à-porter well-known worldwide.
The company was founded around the 60’s by the creative verve of Arnaldo Girombelli and the designer Donatella Ronchi; Genny initially focused on production of blouses and skirts for women.
Gianni Versace joined the company in 1973, revolutionizing the stylistic frameworks; Genny launched Byblos, the young collection, which will become an independent label in 1983.
After Versace, several designers make their debut in the company, starting their brilliant careers, such as Claude Montana, Keith Varty, Alan Cleaver, Dolce and Gabbana, Christian Lacroix, Rebecca Moses, John Bartlett and Richard Tyler.
In June 2001, Genny becomes part of the Prada Group, but the Girombelli family still retains a directive role in the brand.
After an unproductive period the brand was took over by the famous Verona company, the Swinger International SpA in March of 2011, with the aim of relaunching the brand worldwide.
The emerging Gabriele Colangelo heads the creative direction, and he presented his first collection in September 2011.
Despite some business difficulties, Genny’s style has remained unchanged; this "Made in Italy" pride was able to bring back the refined and sophisticated femininity of the 80’s and 90’s, with the charm of a moderate and never eccentric luxury.
Genny’s creations are deliberately tailoring, marked with a sober class: silk organza bicolour chemises, longuette painted like a canvas, colourful blazers with silk velvet details or profiled in python, maxi faded coats with fox inserts.
And not to mention the semi-transparent chiffon pleated dresses.
The brand Genny shows avant-garde collection on the catwalks, creations with a double soul, focusing on the traditional duality between the masculine and the feminine.
