Philosophy
Eric Javits is an american women's brand known for its collections of inventive hats, handbags, and shoes—all of which are designed to complement one another in a mix-and-match fashion.
After graduation at the Rhode Island School of Design, Eric Javits and classmate Elliot Whittal began turning out offbeat sculptural headwear made of liquid plastic and house paint.
In 1985 he opened his women's hat business, where innovative materials have long since given way to finer stuff such as luxury brocades, velvets, taffetas. Within a few years he became known as the hat designer of choice for the international set, royalty and prominent society ladies as well as those celebrated in the worlds of music, television and film industries.
His collections are made by a staff of craftsmen in Manhattan's garment district and offers a wide range of models perfect for any age or occasion: straw sun hat, equestrian hat, water-repellent rain hat, classic fedora hat and wide brim hat.
In 1995 he launched the Squishee®, a durable and stretchy material for hats that could be rolled up for travel and then spring back to its original shape undamaged.
The Squishee® concept evolved into an extensive collection of packable accessories; handbags were added in 1997, coordinating footwear in 2001.
The small leathergoods line, crafted with italian leathers, is a natural complement to Eric Javits’ other collections: all products, such as wallets, chic passport cover and mini crossbody, are packable and designed to coordinate, enabling women to effortlessly pull together their look.
Eric Javits designs are brilliant objects d'art sold in the finest department and specialty stores throughout the United States and celebrities including Angelina Jolie, Alicia Keys, Madonna, Debra Winger and The Kardashians are often seen in Eric Javits creations.
His designs are in the archives of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, recognized for their uncompromising design and enduring style.
